The Global Design Studio program (www.g-d-s.com.au) is a highly successful and established design research program which looks at globally position graduates by identifying the learning “GAPS” (Globally Applied Practice Setting) to promote applied research where the real-world, on-the-ground and firsthand experience captures a truly immersive learning context. This forms the structural framework for the program that requires students to undertake active research of the cultural context of the host country prior to departure.
Upon arrival and during the stay in the host country, students immerse themselves through collaborative design think tanks. An essential part of the GDS program is the post-debriefing, showcasing and dissemination of findings that occurs after active participation in the host country. The program ensures that students analyse and process the experiences and capture the lessons learnt in celebratory networking events such as exhibitions, forums and conferences with the aim of disseminating to a wide audience.
